Administrative and Geographic Division of Chelyabinsk Region

Chelyabinsk region is part of the Ural federal district, Russian Federation. The region was established by the Decree of the Panel of the Russian Central Executive Committee of 17 January 1934. The territory covers 88,500 sq. km. The capital of the region is Chelyabinsk.

The current borders of Chelyabinsk region are fixed by the Decree of the Panel of the Russian Central Executive Committee of 17 January 1934, the Decree of the Panel of the Russian Central Executive Committee of 8 January 1935, Enactment of the Panel of the Supreme Council of RSFSR of 6 February 1943.

The regional legislative branch governs the formation, change and abolition of administrative and geographic entities as well as other issues of administrative and geographic division of the region.

The formation and abolition, status determination and names of closed administrative and geographic entities, naming and renaming localities and entities are performed pursuant to the laws of the Russian Federation and the region.

The local self-government operates in the cities, towns, city districts of the region. The status and borders of municipal formations are established by the regional laws.

Chelybinsk region consists of the following urban districts: Verkhneuralsk, Zlatoust, Karabash, Kopeysk, Kyshtym, Lokomotivny, Magnitogorsk, Miass, Ozersk, Snezhinsk, Trekhgorny, Troitsk, Ust-Katav, Chebarkul, Chelyabinsk, Yuzhnouralsk.

Chelybinsk region consists of the following municipal districts: Agapovka, Argayash, Asha, Bredy, Varna, Verkhneuralsk, Emanzhelinsk, Etkul, Kartaly, Kasli, Katav-Ivanovsk, Kizilskoe, Korkino, Krasnoarmeysky, Kunashak, Kusa, Nagaybak, Nyazepetrovsk, Oktyabrsk, Plast, Satka, Sosnovka, Troitsk, Uvelka, Uyskoe, Chebarkul, Chesma. The municipal districts have cities and towns.

The governmental authorities of Chelyabinsk region exercise regulatory management of local government organization pursuant to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, federal laws, Charter of Chelyabinsk region and other regional laws.
