The Ust-Katav Wagon-Building Plant named after Kirov is the oldest Russian enterprise that was established in 1758. The plant has age-long experience in manufacturing tramcars. The first of them were made in the plant's workshops in 1901. For more than half a century, the plant in Ust-Katav has been a major supplier providing the Russian and CIS market with tramcars.
The enterprise has a large technical potential to meet any requirements for tramcars handling various wheel gauges (1,000 mm, 1,435 mm, 1,520 mm), with various (thyristor-impulse (TISU), contactor-based resistance (RKSU) and transistor (KTSU) traction electrical equipment control systems, as well as to satisfy any need for spare parts and service equipment.
The enterprise has reached a high level technical capacity. Up-to-date sophisticated equipment and flexible production technologies are utilized, and highly-skilled specialists are employed. Design engineering departments are established at the plant for the development of civil and defense related projects. Production of shutoff and control valves, axial/diagonal screw units and other consumer goods is organized within the conversion program framework.
