“Uralskaya Molniya” ice arena named for the six-time Olympic champion from the South Urals Lidia P. Skoblikova was commissioned in 2004. Just alongside “Krylatskoe” covered sports arena opened in Moscow the same year “Uralskaya Molniya” became the second covered standard 400 m skating run with artificial ice in Russia.
The ice arena has a special purpose: besides speed skating it offers opportunities for hockey, figure skating, curling and short-track. In the evenings and at weekends the arena is used by residents of Chelyabinsk and the region for mass skating. The arena has 600 skates, protective outfit and qualified instructors.
The ice arena accommodates the only museum of speed skating in Russia with the exhibits from the beginning of speed skating in the city, region and the country to achievements of our home people at Olympic Games, World and Europe Championship.
The engineering capacity of the ice arena allows arranging even top competitions (Championship of Russia in 2005 among adults and Speed Skating Junior Championship of Russia in 2006, the first Curling Championship of Russia in 2010, etc.).
