Complex "Porogi" in Satka district of Chelyabinsk region was launched in 1910. Today it is the oldest of the industrial culture significant sites including one of Russia's first hydroelectric power stations that still exists and has not been reconstructed. Currently Porozhskaya hydroelectric power station is the sole source of power supply for Porogi and Postroyka settlements. The importance of the factory complex "Porogi" as a world industrial culture significant site was confirmed by the International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage (TICCIH). In 1993, it became one of the main contenders for inclusion in the UNESCO list of world's industrial heritage significant sites. In February 1996, by the decision of the Chelyabinsk region Duma, "Porogi" was declared a historical and cultural significant site of regional importance.
